Bellwood Chamber of Commerce Meeting Focuses on Brownfields

May 2, 2016
The May 19 Bellwood Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. in the lower level of the Bellwood Library, 600 Bohland, will feature information about the project to redevelop vacant and often polluted commercial properties, known as brownfields, for sites that have been selected. The meeting also will include how to suggest sites in other communities.

After a short presentation, the breakfast will open up to a conversation on redevelopment of vacant commercial and industrial properties to hear participants’ thoughts on how properties could or should be developed. The Cook County Department of Environmental Control, Weaver Consulting, Delta Institute and seven municipalities (Bellwood, Forest Park, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake and Schiller Park) have begun the process of redeveloping brownfields. With funding from the Environmental Protection Agency, the partners will assess contamination on the properties so they can be redeveloped in the future.
