Road Closures At 25th Avenue Bridge Construction

February 23, 2015

As Bellwood residents know, over the past several years, Bellwood and Melrose Park have been working tirelessly to address the delays and safety concerns with at grade crossing of 25th Avenue at the Union Pacific Railroad.

During the past nine months, you may have seen significant work going on with in the area of the crossing as utility companies have relocated their facilities. This work has been in preparation of the upcoming bridge construction. With great pleasure, we announce the startup of construction of our bridge.

To this end, we are announcing the road closures related to this project effective March 2:

·         25th Avenue, St. Charles Road to Grant Street in Bellwood will be closed to all but local traffic only.

·         25th Avenue, Grant Street (Bellwood) to approximately 450 feet north of Main Street (Melrose Park) will be closed to all traffic.

·         25th Avenue from approximately 450 feet north of Main Street (Melrose Park) to Lake Street (Melrose Park) will be closed to all but local traffic only.

·         Main Street (Melrose Park) will be closed at 24th Avenue to all but local traffic.

·         There will be no access to 25th Avenue from Main Street in Melrose Park.

All traffic from Lake Street to St. Charles Road should use Mannheim Road. Signage explaining the detour route is clearly displayed throughout the area.

The detour is expected to last through summer 2016.
