Washington Boulevard Streetscape Improvements

What You Should Know
Washington Boulevard Streetscape Improvements
As a part of Bellwood’s ongoing plans to beautify the village and provide a welcoming environment for visitors and commuters, residents can look forward to the first phase of an exciting project that will provide an attractive facelift along Washington Boulevard.
Beginning in fall 2012, new monuments and landscaping will be installed along Washington Boulevard. In spring 2013, the project will continue as shade and flowering trees will be added along the parkway.
Here’s what residents can look forward to in the Washington Boulevard Streetscape Improvements project, which has been designed by Wolff Landscape Architecture, Inc. in Chicago.

Gateway Monument
Lighted obelisks (commonly called columns) and monument walls in new medians west of 25th Avenue and east of Mannheim Road. The walls will be inscribed with “Washington Boulevard” and include the Village of Bellwood logo. The obelisks and monument walls will be surrounded by landscaped beds of flowers.
Municipal Boulevard Landscape
A double row of shade and flowering trees will be planted along the sidewalks on the north and south sides of Washington Boulevard between Eastern Avenue and the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Bridge.
Street Tree Planting
Beginning in spring 2013, new shade trees will be planted in the parkway at every potential location along Washington Boulevard between Mannheim Road and 25th Avenue.
