Village Clerk Lena M. Moreland

The Clerk's primary commitment is to serve all of the citizens who reside, work and play in Bellwood. The duties and responsibilities of the office are diverse and require a considerable amount of dedication and commitment to ensure that the village functions effectively and efficiently.

Under Clerk Moreland's leadership, the following policies, procedures and practices have improved the competencies of the office:

• Introduced and organized new and old ordinances
• Introduced 24-hour cable communication on monitors in the Village Hall lobby
• Implemented and supervised the collection of delinquent water bills
• Participated in various seminars and workshops for village clerks
• Revised the Freedom of Information form
• Facilitated workshop for new election voting machines
• Spearheaded the project to bring funding for improvement of the Prairie Path

First elected to office in 2001, Clerk Moreland received the Certified Clerk designation from the Illinois Municipal Clerk’s Association. She serves on the Fire and Police Pension Board and serves as village collector, corporate seal keeper, board secretary and record keeper of all official village meetings. The clerk has coordinated the village's Annual Senior Ball for more than 300 seniors.

For the past 12 years, she has served as a member and event coordinator for the Bellwood Neighborhood Watch Scholarship Fund Corporation. During her tenure, the fund has distributed scholarships to more than 500 students. She also serves as director of Youth Programs and overseer of the Annual Youth Summer Program that provides summer employment for Bellwood youth.
